  • The Hon'ble Supreme Court constituted a Committee on Road Safety under the Chairmanship of Justice K. S. Radha Krishnan and two other members. The CoRS is reviewing the road safety measures taken by all the States quarterly.
  • State Road Safety Council was set up vide G.O. Ms. No. 4, dated: 23.01.2015 and the meetings of the council were held on 27.06.2015, 31.12.2015, 11.08.2016 and 31.07.2017. Road safety policy and Road safety action plan were formulated and adopted in the first State Road safety council meeting held on 27-06-2015.
  • A Lead Agency with members from Police, R&B, Health, Education Department and Other Departments was set up vide G.O.MS. No. 26 and date: 22/07/2015, and meetings were held regularly to facilitate inter-departmental co-ordination for improving Road Safety.
  • Annual calendar for the purpose of identification and rectification of Black Spots was prepared by R&B dept. National High Ways have identified 25 black spots, NHAI have identified 44 Black spots and 106 have been identified on State Roads and the rectification work is rectified in 126 spots out of the total 175 spots. Work is in progress in respect of the balance of 49 spots.
  • The Road Safety audit consultants submitted proposals to R&B Dept. for necessary Traffic calming techniques to be adopted i.e. Speed reducing techniques like providing Rumble Strips, Speed Breakers, Road Signs etc., at locations where accidents are occurring due to over speeding.
  • The Excise Department is taking necessary steps to control the sale of unauthorized liquor on Highways etc. as per the orders of Hon'ble Supreme Court.
  • Launched "Mr. RIDO", the Road Safety Mascot, to step up audio visual campaign. Five animation films on Road Safety concepts were shown in cinema halls in Telangana State.
  • Medical and Health Department have been requested to issue instructions to all the concerned to implement the order of the Hon'ble Supreme Court that the Private Hospitals are obliged to treat Road Accidents victims without insisting on admission costs and to encourage the good Samaritans.
  • The Education Department prepared Road Safety syllabus for different classes of students separately.
  • Since 01.09.2015 (15123) Driving Licenses are suspended by the Transport Department, in cases of drivers involved in Drunken driving, Overloading, Over Speeding, Signal Jumping and Using Mobile Phone while driving.
  • Speed Governors are being fitted to all Transport vehicles to control over speeding.
  • The no.of cases booked by Police Department for major traffic violations for the period from January to December 2019 is 1.2 Crs. and compounding fee collected is Rs. 357 Crs. the number of vehicles detained is 1.4 Lakhs

Awareness programmes on Road Rules to educate the people to prevent Road Accidents:

The Transport Department is conducting regular awareness programme in the jurisdiction of each unit office of the Transport Department along with the Police, Engineering and Medical & Health Departments are being conducted to bring about awareness on the benefits of use of Helmets, Seat Belts, Avoiding overloading, Drunken Driving, and Usage of Mobile phone while driving.

The Police Department are also conducting awareness programmes for the road users regularly.

KVRR Children Traffic Awareness Park has been established in the Office of the DTC, Karimnagar to impart knowledge about traffic rules and signals. So far 5000 Govt. & Private School students have been trained on traffic Rules in this park.
